Major Jobs Announcement for Castlebar

150 positions in major expansion by Northgate IS.

CASTLEBAR received a major and much-needed jobs boost with the announcement that Northgate Information Solutions, a company specialising in public service contract work, is to set up a base in the county town with the creation of 150 positions.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has welcomed the announcement, stating this was an indication of the confidence of a major service provider in the Irish economy and that the investment and additional jobs are particularly welcome in the west of Ireland.

He indicated that the expansion would have the full support of the development agencies and the local authority, and said he looked forward to seeing the programme move forward with urgency.

Northgate is a private company. It operates around the world and already has 100 people employed in Ireland. The new jobs will be in the information technology sector. There will also be a number of support roles for existing services provided by its Irish operation. The jobs will be filled over the next three years.

90 New Jobs Announced for Four Counties.

A total of 90 new jobs have been announced by firms in Dublin, Cork, Clare and Galway this morning.

Recruitment firm Sigmar said it is seeking to hire 50 new recruitment consultants at its Dublin, Cork and Galway offices over the next 18 months.

Adrian McGennis, chief executive of the firm, said the expansion was a positive indication for Ireland’s economy.

“The past three years have been really positive and it is a testament to our employees that demand is still very high, so we are delighted to continue our growth and development,” he said.

“However, the current demand for consultants highlights that there are very positive aspects of the Irish economy, although there is still a big national challenge in reducing long term employment.”

Mr McGennis said industries which have a high demand for new staff include IT, financial services as well as multilingual and life sciences.

Sigmar Recruitment underwent a management buyout in 2009 and has doubled in size since then.

Meanwhile in Clare, 40 jobs are on the way with the construction of café-restaurant Zest in Bunratty.

The jobs had been on the cards previously, but planning permission for Zest was stalled.

An Bórd Pleanála has now given the go ahead to construction at the old Avoca site with work set to begin early next year.

FlagShip mgt.US maritime consultancy and recruitment firm Flagship Management has announced that it is locating its European, Middle East and African (EMEA) Headquarters in Kinvara, Co. Galway, creating 15 new jobs over the next three years.

The EMEA HQ is being established to provide a formal structure around Flagship Management’s growing European business, and to offer a solid platform for future growth.  The Florida HQ will continue to serve and grow their American markets.

The project was secured under the Succeed-in-Ireland Initiative which is part of the Government’s Action Plan for Job. The initiative is implemented by ConnectIreland under the management of IDA Ireland with the support of the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation.

During the announcement on Friday, Taoiseach Enda Kenny said it is a very welcome boost for the local community in Kinvara.

“Every job that is created through ConnectIreland, under the Succeed in Ireland Initiative, is a job that may not have come to Ireland without the intervention of a ‘Connector’. Whether it is individual connections like this or wider Government strategy, our message is: Ireland is open for business and a great location for inward investment.”

Minister for Enterprise, Jobs and Innovation, Richard Bruton welcomed the move and said it is very exciting to see a successful business such as Flagship Management choose Ireland for their EMEA headquarters.

Amazon and ‘IT’s Happening Here’ join Career Zoo line-up

Amazon and ‘IT’s Happening Here’ join Career Zoo line-up

Amazon and ‘IT’s Happening Here’ join Career Zoo line-up

Previous Career Zoos have attracted large crowds

E-commerce giant Amazon and Irish software initiative ‘IT’s Happening Here’ have joined the line-up of employers at Career Zoo, Ireland’s career event for graduates and professionals, at The Convention Centre Dublin on Saturday, 22 September.

Amazon will be looking to hire staff for its Dublin and UK technical offices.

‘IT’s Happening Here’, which is supported by Enterprise Ireland, promotes career opportunities in Irish-owned software companies.

Acting as an umbrella brand for the industry that comprises more than 600 companies, it aims to attract software professionals at Career Zoo (both in Ireland and from overseas) to work in the sector.

“We are strongly supportive of this initiative which puts the spotlight on our indigenous software industry,” said Anne Lanigan, Software Division, Enterprise Ireland.

“The innovation and capability of this industry is second to none. To paraphrase (playwright) George Bernard Shaw – ‘they see things that never were and ask why not?’ For a software programmer, this is one of the most exciting places in the world. These vacancies need to be filled by the best and brightest to ensure the growth and future of this industry.”

The Irish-owned software industry is thriving. Predominantly export driven, it has delivered double-digit growth in exports in the last two years and is crying out for skilled workers.

The industry is looking for 1,500 highly skilled professionals who want to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment where they will see their software technologies used in major cities around the world.

The IT’s Happening Here video gives a taste of what it’s like to work for an Irish-owned software company:

Previously, Microsoft, the Irish Research Council and Hays Recruitment were announced as sponsors of Career Zoo.

“Having Microsoft, ‘IT’s Happening Here’ and Amazon on board as sponsors for this event reaffirms Career Zoo as an important hiring tool for companies in Ireland looking for top tech talent,” said director at Career Zoo Jackie Slattery.

“There will also be employers from other sectors, such as pharma, biomedical, finance, agri-food and more. It’s going to be a national showcase of career opportunities in Ireland today.”

Career Zoo grows over four years

This is the fourth Career Zoo event with the previous events taking place in the Mansion House in Dublin and attracting more than 10,000 visitors with many jobs being filled across various sectors. This September’s event will be building on this success with a move to The Convention Centre Dublin.

“Moving Career Zoo to The Convention Centre has allowed us more space and scope for exciting new developments, such as an interactive area, a games zone and a ‘Tech Box’, where tech activities will be taking place over the day, so as well as the serious business of career development there will also be an interactive and a fun element to the day,” said Slattery.

Major multinational and Irish companies, educators, recruiters and enterprise organisations will be in attendance, with top employers hiring at the event for thousands of jobs in Ireland. The event runs from 10am-6pm. Admission is free for all visitors, who may register online their interest in attending Career Zoo.

Reward incentive offered to drive foreign direct investment to Ireland

Post image for Reward incentive offered to drive foreign direct investment to Ireland

An Irish Government programme, Succeed in Ireland, will offer a minimum financial reward of €1,500 per job up to a maximum of 100 jobs to people who can host introductions to overseas companies which create new sustainable jobs in Ireland.

IDA Ireland has appointed ConnectIreland to deliver the Succeed in Ireland initiative as part of the Irish Government’s Action Plan for Jobs 2012 which aims to create a minimum of 5,000 new jobs over five years.

To achieve the jobs target ConnectIreland is implementing a global marketing referral programme asking individuals to make contact with family, friends and business connections, to identify and make introductions between ConnectIreland and high-growth overseas companies that are considering international expansion.

Once an introduction is made, ConnectIreland’s team of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) specialists will begin talks with the company and explain why Ireland is the best business location for expanding companies.

ConnectIreland welcomed its first success story in May when Carlow based Eddie Horkan’s contacts led to US engineering firm Intergeo Services creating 30 jobs in Carlow. Under the initiative Mr Horkan will receive a payment of €45,000 from the Irish Government for helping to bring the new jobs toIreland.

Ireland is the first country in the world to offer an incentivised referral programme to boost efforts to attract foreign direct investment.

Overseas companies expanding to Clonmel will be keeping good company as the town hosts a number of multinational corporations such as Abbott Ireland Vascular, Boston Scientific, Pinewood Healthcare, Merck Sharp & Dohme and many others.

Careergro co-founders John Costello, Gerard Cunningham and Kevin Sorohan

Careergro, a new HR start-up that has tapped into the cloud to create a career development tool for employees and companies, has gleaned a €300,000 cash injection from private investors and Enterprise Ireland.

The start-up was set up in 2010 and is based at NovaUCD. Its co-founders Kevin Sorohan, John Costello and Gerard Cunningham said they are planning to use the funding to support their business expansion plans.

The trio is also planning to hire an extra 15 people over the next three years.

Careergro is also opening a new sales office in Hammersmith, London, to support its expansion into the UK market.

The start-up’s cloud-based career development software tool for employees is already being used in blue-chip companies, such as Vodafone and Heineken.

Tracking your career development in real time

Careergro is free to use for individuals and for groups of up to 50 people.

Sorohan said employees can use the site to help with their career development and to assess their skill sets.

He said people can track their career development progress and achievements, while feedback is recorded in real time.

The start-up will be launching its Careergro tool into the UK market today at the 2012 Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development HRD Learning and Organisation Development conference.

Careergro’s co-founders all have had careers involving technology. Sorohan (now CEO) is a serial entrepreneur, with a track record of founding and selling technology companies. Prior to co-founding Careergro, Costello was an engineer in the innovation and product development field. Cunningham has more than 20 years of international experience in product development, project management and business development for multinational tech firms.
